The Model Gap FIX mod is a simple client mod designed to address the known issue of gaps in Block Models and Item Models within Minecraft, which can also impact other models in the game.
One of the key features of this mod is the removal of texture zooming, ensuring that every model face utilizes 100% of its texture, effectively resolving the pesky gaps that were previously visible. This fix not only applies to items but also extends to block models and any other models that may encounter such gaps.
Notably, users who have utilized custom block models or certain 2D items have found this issue particularly prominent.
The mod does not introduce any performance lag, as the removal of texture zooming simplifies the code without any significant impact on gameplay. It may even enhance certain aspects of item models, potentially providing a more detailed rendering compared to the vanilla game.
The core mechanism of the mod involves eliminating texture zooming, a straightforward solution that effectively addresses the gaps on models. Previously, texture zooming was implemented to prevent “atlas bleeding,” a phenomenon where the edges of a texture bleed into neighboring textures on the atlas. However, this issue is not prevalent across most hardware setups, prompting the mod to disable this feature. Users experiencing related artifacts can simply uninstall the mod.
For 2D item models, an additional adjustment was made to address tiny gaps arising from the quad-by-quad generation process. By altering the item model generator to avoid creating quads with transparent pixels and opting for multiple quads for solid pixel rows, these gaps were seamlessly covered, ensuring a more cohesive model appearance. Notably, this adjustment may not be necessary for Fabric users, as this platform seems to handle models without generating such small gaps.
If users still notice faint lines on certain models, these lines are likely minimal and a result of rounding errors specific to individual systems. Tweaking the mod configurations can help mitigate or eliminate these lines by adjusting specific values in the settings.
